The Eastern Policy of the EU: What May Lie Ahead for Ukraine

Paweł Kowal was a Member of the European Parliament and served as chair of the EU delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Commission.

 

Dr. Paweł Kowal is an assistant professor in the Institute of Political Studies at the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is a political scientist, historian, columnist, and expert on the EU’s eastern policy.

In 2009-14, Paweł Kowal was a Member of the European Parliament and served as chair of the EU delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Commission. He also served on the Foreign Affairs Committee.Dr. Kowal is also a former member of the Sejm (Poland’s parliament) and the Polish National Security Council (2007-9). In 2006-7, he served as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Kowal is the author of numerous publications on political transformations in Central Europe. He is a member of the editorial board of the bi-monthly New Eastern Europe, a member of the board of Platform of European Memory and Conscience, and also serves on the board of the Jan Nowak-Jeziorański College of Eastern Europe (Kolegium Europy Wschodniej) in Wrocław. He is a co-founder of the Museum of the Warsaw Rising in Warsaw.
